Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia
Requirement of Cash Payment for Debt
My car has been impounded for quite some time, unbeknown to me, as a result of loaning it temporarily to a friend. The bill has amounted to over $800 to recover it. Is it legal for impounds to require cash tender? How do I know how long the vehicle has been there and whether the fees accumulated are valid?

Re: Requirement of Cash Payment for Debt
Since cash is legal tender, and other payment options are generally not, yes. Checks, credit cards, etc,. are generally accepted as a convenience - not because a business has to. You don't say what you propose instead of cash, but it probably relates to the reason they won't take it prior to giving up their bargaining chip.
