Legal Question in Business Law in Georgia

I've been working with a company as a contract System Administrator for the past 3 years. A couple years they had an accountant embezzle a bunch of money and their accounts were frozen for a couple of months and they fell about 2 months behind on my payments. They were supposed to be sending me a payment every two weeks but since then they have been sending me a payment for 6 weeks of work every 8 weeks. They're behind about 13k at the moment. I just landed a new job and won't be able to work for them anymore. Before I put my two weeks in I would like to know what I will need if I have to get a lawyer involved. My invoices so far have been a total amount of hours per week and aren't itemized with the exact time of day I work since it changes. I've been working the same amount of hours per week the entire time I've been with them and have 1099's for the last 3 years. I also have all of my daily emails proving what I've done daily for them. The company is in Georgia, US. Any advice before I contact them or a lawyer would be greatly appreciated.
