Christian Shirt in Public School

Here's the question: I have a friend who goes to public school. Her school will not allow her to wear a shirt with a cross on it to school. The school has told the students that it's offensive and that it creates religious disputes. On top of that she is on the schools new's staff and they won't allow her to wear the shirt because it would anger people on the school news broadcast. Is this constitutional? I'm no law expert as you guys are, but isn't this a violation of the First Ammendment to the Constitution. ''Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.'' It sounds to me as though she is being told she can't be a christian in school or express it passively and peacable because it might offend someone. Clothes alone might offend some people...so my question is, Can her school truly ban Christian t-shirts that have a cross on them?

Generally, the school's right to keep the peace in the school and foster a proper learning environment outweigh a student's right to display religious symbols. You can still be a Christian and not wear an advertisement for it.
