Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia
Civil Rights Violation?
I have a family member who wrote a derrogatory comment on the back of her car about Barrack Obama (she gave each letter of obama a work, One Big A** Mistake America). She was brought into work and written up citing she offended her co-workers. Yet, her employee handbook states no pictures or writing on shirts (of any kind). She works in a predominately African American work environment. Those individuals where allowed to wear Obama campaign shirts and where given time from their work schedule to pray for the ''Jena 6''. Yet, nothing was said about that to them. She feels that she was discriminated against (she is a white, middle aged woman) and feels that she might be fired in a rumored ''lay-off'' at her company, yet feels that if she was ''laid off'' it was only in retaliation of this. She has documented everything that has happened and wants to pursue a lawsuit.

A few relevant questions come to mind:
(1) Is she employed by the government or a private employer?
(2) If the employer is a private company, does it employ 15 or more people?
(3) Is this the first time she feels that she has been discriminated against?
(4) Has she filed a complaint, multiple complaints, or otherwise let her supervisors/superiors know that she has felt discriminated against?

Re: Civil Rights Violation?
Nothing in your post for your family member friend suggests that she has any legitimate claim that can be filed. Among other things, shhe has not suffered any loss.
