Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia
default on judgement
a year ago i was sued by a former contractor. i was default in payment for work due to me pretty much being the middle man and i never got paid and lost company. the contractor was willing to settle and a judgment was drawn up in which i had a year to pay off debt. he also was to return equipment he ran off with when he left job. it has been a year already and i have not made payments. i just have slowly lost everything over the last year but not enough to claim bankruptcy. i figure i can dig myself out of the debt but i am nervous that i had a specific time frame to pay this off and the time has nearly gone and passed. what should i do and more importantly what can happen to me ?

Re: default on judgement
Depending on the nature and language of the consent order, you may be held in contempt for not paying the total amount within a year. However, the payee would have to request the court to hold you in contempt. I would suggest contacting the payee and work out another payment plan. Of course, hiring an attorney to handle your case would be helpful, but would cost money.
