Re: Public disputes
Almost all disputes can be settled outside of the courtroom. Settlement of a case can be done in a variety of ways: settlement agreement, contract, etc. You do not have to file a lawsuit to be able to settle a case. Many counties in Georgia make it mandatory that cases filed in courts be sent to mediation, arbitration, or sometimes binding-arbitration, depending upon the facts of the case. Some contractual cases have arbitration agreements written in them. If you do choose to settle the matter, make sure you have something in writing to protect your interests. Different states in the U.S. have different laws; my answer is based on my practice in Georgia.

dispute can be settled outside court. It will have a binding effect if it is done in accordance with the arbitration law in force in your area
