Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Georgia
I purchased a used car from a private dealer for $2300. Me and the man who i bought the car from went to autozone to have it looked at before i purchased the car. Autozone told me that the distrubuter cap in the car was broken. It was an easy not to costly fix so i went ahead and purchased the car. The gentlemen told me if i have any problems with the car contact him. 10 days later when i went to a mechanic shop to have the car tune-up and fixed, they told me that the car needed a new engine and showed me how bad of a condition the orginal engine was in. The mecahnics then told me the engine will cost 980 dollars plus labor which came out to be 2,200 dollars. That total did not even enclude the other things wrong with the car. The man who i bought the car from has not returned any phone calls and all i have is a number from him and the title to the car and what may or may not be his first name. I want to go to court and sue him for my 2300 dollars back but i need to know if i have a case or not. I am a college student and cant afford to lose that amount of money. please help.

Unless you have a written warranty or contract providing for a refund, you bought the car "as is." It was your obligation to take the car to a qualified mechanic for a complete inspection (not just a part store mechanic opening the hood to "look at" it). By not doing that, you bought a piece of junk and you are stuck with it. As a college student, treat this as a lesson learned for major purchases in the future.
