Legal Question in Technology Law in Georgia

Availability of standard disclaimers?

I am setting up an Email service for the senior class of the high school that I work at, but the

administration is concerned about liability issues. They do not want one of the students sending threats or pornography through our system, and then the parents, or a third party trying to sue the school. I was wondering if there are any sites online, or books that contain "generic" disclaimers dealing with liability issues, specifically content issues, etc..

Re: Availability of standard disclaimers?

I suggest you go to the School Board President or Superintendent and ask him to have the School Attorney help you with a disclaimer. A disclaimer does not prevent suit. It just makes it less likely that any suit would be successful against the school. People seem to think that there is some magical way to prevent other people from going to court. If controversial things happen that don't get amicably settled, people go to court to have their disputes settled by a judge. Sometimes it doesn't matter to the plaintiff that it might lose, particularly if it is a matter of principle.

More important in stopping the controversies is to have some sort of filter to autofilter out the porn. Check with a local computer store about what email filtering programs of that sort are available. Perhaps knowing it is the local school the store would donate.
