Legal Question in Technology Law in Georgia

I had a disagreement with my dad about some things going on at our Church. He sent an email to a few of the members about that disagreement. I wanted to see who all got the email and so I logged onto his email account (I knew his password; I did not "hack"). Well some time went by and I felt bad for logging into his email. So I told him what I did and that I wanted to apologize. Now he claims that I broke the law and he is threatening to turn me in for logging on and reading his email. My question is: Did I break the law? What can I do to make this right with the law? And if I did break the law, what kind of punishment can I expect?
