What are the possible legal consequences for stealing someone's password to an email account and disseminating the content of that account to others?

The consequences are severe.

Under Georgia law the criminal penalty is up to a $50,000.00 fine or imprisonment for up to 15 years, or both.

Georgia law also allows a civil suit for damages.

Additionally there can also be felony prosecution under federal law.
