Legal Question in Construction Law in Georgia

Contractor walked off job

Have a contract for a job, 1/2 way thru, he decides he needs $5k more. I told him no, we have a contract where you stated you would do the job for $15k. He walked off the job. Left me with my fireplace in the yard, hole in the exterior and interior, no ceiling, no floor, no HVAC, gas, water or heat. I have paid him $21k. Had 2 contracts for $30K total. What recourse do I have?

Re: Contractor walked off job

Sue for breach of contract. If you ask for less than $15,000 in total damages, you may file suit in magistrate (small claims) court. Otherwise, I would recommend hiring local counsel to represent you. You might be able to collect with a simple threatening letter from an attorney.
