Legal Question in Construction Law in Georgia

Paid a contractor for work he did not do

On 8/5/06 I accepted a proposal from a conttactor to repair a cross tie wall. I received a detail proposal including a cost of $2087.oo for labor and materials. I gave him $1150.00 to purchase materials for the job. He started the job pouring part of the foundation to build the wall and then stopped showing up. In repeated attempts to contact him, I have left messages and now the phone numbers I have for him have been disconnected. I have no address for him and no other way to contact him.

What can I do to get my money back?

You can file suit in small claims/Magistrate Court. If you can't find him, his property or bank accounts, collection may be difficult but at least you may get a judgment in case he turns up. Be very wary of paying in advance. You are fortunate in that apparently suppliers did not provide materials and place a lien on the property.
