auto lease
We traded in our car for a lease on a new van, the dealership that we used was the same as well as the finance company. About a month we were informed by letter that we still owed a balance on the auto we traded in of over two thousand dollars.The letter stated that they had recived a payment but a balance was owed.
Is the dearlership at fault to allow trade in and leaseing a new auto contract without getting a proper pay-off balance, or am I?

You are responsible to the lender.
The dealer MAY be responsible to you if you specifically added language to the contract that required them to pay off the lease. That will likely not be part of the printed form; you would have had to have added it and had them sign it.
