Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
Bought a car. The car had some sort of like a squeaking grinding noise that it seemed to be the pulley/tensioner/serpentine belt (not that bad) and told them to fix it before I went to pick it up. They added a line that said "check serpentine belt" on the "WE OWE" paper before signing (3 more things were added also). Before I picked up the car, I spoke to my sales man and asked him if everything was done and if the sound was gone. He said yes, come pick it up. I picked it up and he said if I had any problems with it to bring it back. After having the car for a day or so I noticed the noise is still there. I call my sales man again and he said he was going to talk to his manager and the mechanic. The manager was going to give me a call back that very same day. Well no one called. I called back my sales man and he said the manager said that was a normal clutch sound when the ac engages. Now they are giving me the run around. I researched the problem and its the ac compressor thats broken (ac compressor is hooked up to the serpentine belt). The whole replacement parts cost about $1800 including labor. Now, I havent told them that I know thats the problem but it seems they are starting to give me the run around. What do you recommended I should do? If it gets to the point in which they wont do anything do I have the possibility of suing them? I think they know what the problem is; they just dont want to fix it.
Thank you,
Will

You get to fix it, based upon what you posted. What a salesperson says on a car sale is irrelevant. What the sales contract and any written warranty say do matter.
Based upon what you wrote, all they had to do was check the belt. Anything else that was wrong was your responsibility.
You've learned an expensive but valuable lesson. In the future, in the same situation, you would not sign the contract until the car passed an independent inspection, or you would buy a warranty. Otherwise you own it as is and any problem is yours to fix.
