Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
Cancellation of Membership
Hi
I wish to know how can a contract be one sided without reasonable cushion for the customer cancellation.
I have recently signed up for a membership in Bally Total Fitness for 3 years and due to personal reasons I cannot continue with it. I wish to cancel the membership and I am told by the helpdesk that I cannot cancel and I have to live with the contract.
Could you please give any guidance on this.
Regards

Re: Cancellation of Membership
Georgia law allows a consumer seven business days to cancel a health spa contract. You are not required to state the reason, or even have a reason, in order to cancel your membership within this period. If you choose to cancel, you must do so by midnight of the seventh business day after the date of signing of the contract, and the cancellation must be done in accordance with the terms of the contract. After seven days, if the contract otherwise complies with Georgia law, there is no right to cancel except for any right found in the contract.
Re: Cancellation of Membership
To further respond to one of your questions, the law presumes that adults are capable of making their own decisions as far as the agreements they make, and living up to their agreements. Is a contract is "one sided," perhaps the decision should be made to not sign it.
