Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
consumer's rights when car loan is sold
In August of 2005, we purchased a car from a used car dealer. We have made every payment on time. They called us today to notify us they are selling our loan to a company and that my husband and I both must come, with the car, to the new loan company and have a locksmith make a key to our car which they will use in the event of reposesion. I know they have a right to sell the loan, but can the new company require us to both come to their location (not convient for us at all) and do they have a right to have a key to our car? I don't believe the dealer we bought it from kept a key. Shouldn't they come to us if they are requiring all this stuff? It sounds VERY suspicious. What are our rights and options in this situation?

You should consult with a local attorney to review your original documents to see if they have this right.
