Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

DISH TV Fee

I had Sat. service with Dish, a DVR and regular receiver and canceled them, going to Direct TV. I told them I wanted the DVR and a regular receiver.

The service tech could not install the DVR, he said Dish had better equipment and he could not set up Direct's DVR on my cable hook up.

I instead ended up with 2 regular receivers. A week later I got a service tech to come and give a 2nd opinion. He also said it would not work.

Having a DVR then not having one, is like driving a Rolls then going back to a Toyota.

I have put in to cancel Direct TV but they tell me that I will owe them a cancelation fee of $150 for not keeping the service for a year.

How can I avoid this rip off charge, I had about 11 days of service in all and don't think it is my fault that Direct TV could not complete the install that I had wanted.

If they could have gotten the DVR put in I would have been happy to keep their service but since their equipment is not as good as Dish I don't think it fair for me to have to pay a fee in order to cancel.

What are my options here?

Re: DISH TV Fee

These issues can get complicated. It all depends on the wording of your contract. You should have a local attorney review your contract to see if you have an out.

Re: DISH TV Fee

You didn't mention a word about the terms of your actual agreement with DirecTV. We can't guess what it is, so we don't know whether the charge is valid or not.
