Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

I enrolled at Georgia State University to pursue my Bachelors degree in fall of 2003. I was told upon enrolling that I am not an in-state student and will have to pay out of state fees, however would be considered an in-state student after one year of living in Georgia. After one year at Georgia State I filed the petition with Georgia State University to be considered a resident of Georgia, it was denied. Each year my petition was denied.

I graduated in May 2007, with a mountain of debt to repay. Because I was considered an out of state student each year, I had to pay $8500 per semester as oppose to $2200 per semester for in state. I am now $40,000 deep in educational debt.

Please help.

What, specifically, are you asking? Most of your post is about your history with the school, which appears to have been resolved. If you are asking about what to do with the debt, that takes much more information. Why can't you pay as agreed? It is not unusual for students to graduate with a lot of debt -- it is the cost of your education. Believe it or not, that amount is not unusual and is often manageable. Again, we don't know what you need help with?

You needed to see a lawyer in 2004 about your status. That cannot be changed.

$40,000 in education debt is quite manageable. Go to CCCS of Atlanta to work out a debt management plan. You may also be able to address it via deferments or a Chapter 13 bankruptcy repayment plan. You will need to retain a lawyer about the latter.
