Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

I found $40 in a cash-back basket of a scan items yourself machine, at a local grocery store, the lady walking away fro the machine didnt notice it so i grabed the money, and told her she forgot her money. She said that the money was not her's. the attendant at the front noticed this and grabed the money from my hand and claimed that the store owned it if it was not her's. I was rather frustrated and gave him my information incase no one claimed it, but i had a feling that attendant had just made $40. is the money mine or the store's?

It certainly is not yours - you stated that in the first few words of your post. If someone came into your house and found $20 in the couch that could not be identified, would you consider it their money? Why would you think the attendant made $40 when that is what you apparently wanted to do? You are on the store's property. You found money that is not yours, and you turned it over to the store (albeit not willingly). That was the right thing to do. Whether they do the right thing and hold it for whoever lost it is not within your control.
