Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
i hired a contractor to install a new roof on my home. we signed a contract stating i would give him 2800 to start and 2000 when finished. he went out and bought the materials needed to get started. a work crew showed up at my house and began to work. the crew could not finish because the supplies ran out. when i attempted to to contact the contractor he did not return any phone calls. he also never paid the workers. after two months passed i finally had enough money to buy the additional materials and pay the workers to complete the job. so i have any legal standing to get my money back from the contractor since he failed to carry out the completion of the job.

We can't answer you because the answer completely depends on the language of the written contract. Your rights are no more and no less than what the contract says about damages for a default. At this point you need to let a lawyer look at it.
You also learned a valuable lesson. Never pay a contractor a significant payment up front. And never hire one without a well-written contractreviewed by YOUR lawyer as to penalties for a default.
