No one here has read the contract so no one here can answer you. The answer will be in the contract you decided not to post for us to read, and yes, you can do a contract online. I certainly hope you read it before you typed agree, because you are responsible for what you sign (and click).

Your "rights" are found by first looking to the terms of the agreement you signed (or agreed to online). Surely you read and understood them before agreeing, so what did it say about notice? I am not sure ho you think we have that information.

I have dealt with this before. First, we need to see the contract as noted by the other attorneys. I don't care what the company told you but what is in the contract. They typically have auto-renew provisions and you have to take affirmative steps to cancel within the time period.

It depends on the circumstances - not reading is not an excuse. However, if you were at your dying mother's bedside and could not cancel in time, they might be willing to do something in your case and may agree to release you upon payment of a few months into the alarm contract renewal. Or not. Some alarm companies can be difficult. Can you see if the contract can be assigned to someone else who wants its? You may be able to do this as an alternative.

I hate these things and think they are bad ideas all around. The world is not as scary a place as the alarm companies would have you believe unless you live in a really bad part of the 'hood. And in that case, no security system is really going to stop the bad guys.

Anyway, if you would like assistance with this, I would be willing to review your contract and send a letter on your behalf to the alarm company to see what can be done for a reasonable fee.
