Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

Identity Theft Victim Needs Advice

As a victim of ID theft, I have discovered that the thief has possibly used my personal information in a counterfeiting scheme. I have been working with an investigator from my local sheriff's office, but is providing all the notes and information I've gathered enough to prove I am not involved in this? Would hiring a lawyer be beneficial or not? I feel I have enough proof that I could not have conducted the transactions, but I am still concerned that I might be held liable for something I did not do. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Re: Identity Theft Victim Needs Advice

I can't comment on whether your notes and information would be enough to exonerate you since I don't know the contents. Other than the cost, it is always beneficial to retain an attorney to help protect your rights. You should not take problems with your credit score lightly.
