Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

law regarding expiration of gift certificates (not gift cards or store credits)

I have a gift certificate from a national company with few brick and mortar locations. last year, i called to find out if there was any recourse for expired certificate. was told it could be reissued for 5$ charge (for ups return shipping) was no sense of urgency implied. now they're offering *maybe* 1/2 value of certificate to reissue. i would like to know what recourse is, or what the law is in georgia (or would state laws be applicable to this if they have stores/offices in other states with statutes) regarding this? i recall hearing something about it really only being a guideline, not an actual DEAD BY date, and that it must still be honored.

i'm most concerned to find if there is a georgia law, since i live in georgia, but this company also has stores in NY, DC, NC, CA and KS.

any assistance with answer, or pointing in right direction would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

laurie

Don't call customer no-service with these type things.

Companies are free to set their own giftcard policies and as long as they follow them there is no legal recourse.

The smart way to address these type things is a polite letter to the CEO of the company (find that online). Most of the time, a person high up will accomodate you to avoid losing a customer.
