Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
I live in an apartment. I put service request for flooring repair for the 2nd time, as the first repair was done improperly by maintenance crew. I made it specific that I should be contacted to make an arragement. They came and did poor repair job on Tuesday, which I was notified and gave them consent to enter the apt. I came home on Monday evening at 10:30 PM and found out that there had been some contractors in the unit and replaced flooring. However, I left the dead-bolt locked, so not sure how they got it, nor I was notified of the repair work schedule. They left the place with trash, urinated on the toilet (urination mark on toilet), left shower curtain opened, moved magazines and couches around (not in the way of anything), left dirty finger prints on door knobs, doors, and refrigerator doors, etc. I contacted apt management office Tuesday morning and they had no record and idea of the repair work. I took pictures of everything. I also called Gwnt Co Police on Wednesday evening to document the incident. I am missing some credit cards (which are no loger activated), even though I will keep looking for them. It is costing me a lot: time off from work, stress, etc.
How can I get compensated?
1 Answer from Attorneys
There is no compensation in such cases for stress or loss time from work.
You could sue the landlord for the cost of the Formula 409 to remove the fingerprints, and even if successful would spend about $260 in court costs to try and win the three dollars. I doubt you'd find any lawyer taht would consider such a case.
I'd suggest moving at the end of your lease to an apartment with better maintenance.
