Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
do i have to pay?
i hired someone to re-roof my mom's garage. he said he would be finished in 1 week. he worked on it that long, but now here it is one month later and he hasn't been back to clean up the mess, or to finish the roof. It is almost finished, but I can't get him to come back and I have asked him on many occasions. When he left after the first week I paid him $600 and had a balance of $900. I have since had to pay someone to come and clean up the yard. I have also had someone come out and give me a price to finish the job.
Do I have to pay the balance of the first job? They have called and said that they would put a lien on my mom's house if I don't pay the balance eventhough the job is not finished.

Re: do i have to pay?
Just as anyone can file a lawsuit against anyone else, anyone can file a lien. However, there can be repercussions against anyone files a fraudulent lien. You should contact a local attorney for more specifics. The GA code section that is pertinent is 44-14-361.1. You can do more research ://www.ganet.org/services/ocode/ocgsearch.htm
