Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
I had a power account that was in my name under my SS#. Hit hard times and had to move. Same power company at new house but we put the account in my wifes name and her SS#. They have now added my old bill to her account. Is that legal? They are saying because I live here they can do that. That doesn't sound right. What can I do to have them remove. I plan to pay the bill but need time to do it.

You left out what the contract you signed with the power company says. Since we don't know that there is no way to answer you. They probably cannot, but it would depend on the language of a document you have not shared.
Yes, that is their normal course of business and they generally get away with it (whether or not it is part of a contract). Both residents had the benefit of the utility service at the previous address, and both of you want the benefit in the new address. As far as it "sounding right," they would say that it does not sound right for a couple to set up an account in another name to avoid paying a bill. It works both ways.
