Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

I purchased a vehicle in ga while living in florida in feb 2010. the dealer made out the check for the tag for the wrong amount. they are telling us we owe the tag office an extra $247.94 because they are only allowed to collect state tax and we are responsible to pay the county tax. Another person told me we were short because we did not give them the correct tax rate for the state of florida and gave me a few items that this exta will pay, like decal, license plate, etc. Now the dealer is saying the lender is requiring them to take care of this today or the dealer will have to pay off the loan which would inturn require the dealer to come take back our vehicle which we have insurance on and made every payment so far. What the dealer proposed was that they would send a check to the tag office and get the tag, but not relinquish the tag to us until we paid atleast half the $274.94. I feel they are bullying us and trying to take advantage. I look forward to any advice I can get.

You owe taxes whether the dealer collects them or not. A default on taxes likely is a default under your loan agreement and would be grounds for repossession.
