Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

Purchasing Car with Power of Attorney

My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan. I obtained a Power of Attorney before he left, so I could purchase a vehicle in both our names. I'm having problems with the finance department at a dealership not accepting the POA. Is this legal? The POA specifically states that I can purchase property in my husband's name. I'm a homemaker, so I cannot get the car myself. I was told I must get a job to purchase the car. Is this a common practice with dealerships?

Re: Purchasing Car with Power of Attorney

No one has to accept a power of attorney, and a car transaction is one where one is unlikely to be accepted at many dealerships. (A more limited one, on a state form, is often used to get the actual tag and title). But it's probably unlikely any normal car lender is going to do loan papers with a POA.
