Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

Purchasing a car and if it can be returned

We purchased a veh dec 28. We would like to return it, it is still in limbo tring to get financing. Will it be a problem to return it? It has been in our possesion since the 28th. The down pay. has not been cashed yet. What are my rights as a consumer regarding this? Papers were signed the 28th, but we were called back for more info. Nothing is finalized yet. We got the cold shoulder today when we went to ask them, we then left because of it. Please advise us on the best course that is available to us. Thanks

Re: Purchasing a car and if it can be returned

Read your contract. Generally, when you sign your name, you own the car. In this case, you probably have been "spotted" the car pending financing. If the dealer obtains financing for you at the rates specified in the contract, you likely own the car. If they cannot, and they try to change the deal on you, you can let them know that you do not accept the new terms and want to return the car. They may then suddenly be able to do the original deal. If they take the car back, don't count on them still having your trade (if you did a trade). A couple things to remember her and in the future -- generally, you own the car when you sign your name, even if the next day you change your mind and think it was a bad deal. Second, get financing approval from a bank before you buy, so you don't have these issues. Good luck. You may want to post a new question depending on the financing issue, or search for old responses.
