Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia

being stopped when leaving

Today when I went to leave the sams club on airport thruway. Not a typo. The person who looks over your purchases and puts the mark on the receipt. Told me to stop, and ''let her see in my bag.'' I kept asking her what for, her only reply was so she can look in it. She then proceeded to get another person. Who in turn got the manager. Which after the usual ''customer is always right'' agreement was done. He let me go. To me this bring up several issues.

The first issue is how come she doesn't stop a woman, and demand to look in their purse. Just because a woman carries a purse doesn't mean they aren't stealing. Like I feel I was accused of. Second doesn't a person have to be acting in an unatural manner to give them the right to examine a bag someone is carrying. Third issue is how come a woman doesn't get their purse searched. After all it can as said be used to steal with. But a simple bag is somehow automatically a call for this harrasement. I do not get it. Fourth what did I do to warrent her to demand to look in my bag?

Re: being stopped when leaving

How do we know what you did that prompted the search? Sam's is a membership club, and they check bags/purchases on the way out. You have the choice to shop there and agree to their terms, or not. Apparently no one forced you to stay, and you could have simply left (perhaps prompting a call to security, and possible forfeiture of your membership). Bottom line - if you do not like the policies of a store, shop elsewhere. Sam's stops everyone at the door - not sure why you feel picked on.

Pardon me if I am missing something here, but this sounds like a "vent". Perhaps you should consult with a local attorney to flesh out all of the facts to see if you have a valid complaint.
