Legal Question in Consumer Law in Georgia
Unauthorised money withdrawal on credit card
What law gives gas stations the right to take more money off of your credit/debit card than you actually spent? Example: I want to purchase $20 of gas. I go into the store and the machine shows insufficient funds. Reason is I have a total of $85 on my card and the gas station takes $75 above the $20 and wont let me get gas. To make sure that I haven't calculated my balance incorrectly,I come home and look online at my account. It now shows $9 on my card because the gas station, who wouldn't give me $20 worth of gas, now has taken $75 off on my card. I now get informed that the money will not be returned to my card for another week. How is this legal?

It's legal and authorized. Read your bank's debit card agreement. Car rental companies do the same thing with debit cards.
