Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

account scheduled to charge off

1 year ago opened a credit card acct with an additional card for my ex-bf ( at the time bf), the acct is past due, due to him not paying for the amt he owed, and now the credit card company sent me an letter saying that the acct is scheduled to charge off and they need me to pay in full immediately ($3000) i am a college student and i don't have this money now, at the same time i don't want anything worse to be on my credit given that it is already bad to have serious past due record on there. What should i do? i don't have the money i don't even know if the amount is true or not. Anyone can give me the best advice on possibly erasing or fixing the record and reduce the payment amt or not being responsible for disputed items? i have to act asap

Re: account scheduled to charge off

The accountholder is responsible for charges to the account (including late fees, interest, etc.). That should have been understood when the account was opened and another person allowed to run up your debt. It is often good to learn a lesson like this early in life. A part time job is an obvious way to pay off the debt. You fail to state a basis for getting out of any of the debt, or why you disputed some charges. You can always try to negotiate, in writing, a settlement for a lesser amount.
