A friend of mine took a loan out on a vehichle for me to drive as long as i made the car payments. i made every payment to the bank. after a year he asked me to have the car put in my name. since my credit was poor after a divorce i was unable to do this. he then asked for the car back. after i gave the car back to him he now tells me he sold the car and the difference is $4000 and i need to pay him this. can he do this?

Re: advice
It sounds like you both engaged in a breach of contract with the lender, so you both may face a consequence you didn't ask about.
As for whether he can do what you asked about, that depends on the contract you signed with him. You haven't told us what terms are in it.
