Bad checks

I wrote a check to a local walmart in atlant georgia, and it was reterned. I want to know what the penilties are?

Depending on the size of the check (which you failed to provide), it can be a misdemeanor or a felony. For a misdemeanor you can be jailed for up to one year and fined $1000 plus surcharges. You also can be civilly sued (usually for 3 times the amount of the check). Additionally, if reported on check systems, you may be unable to open a bank account for years.

Pay the check immediately, including surcharges. Unless you're dishonest, you should have done that as soon as you realized it happened.
