Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Bank Lien on Unemployment Benefits

My bank has frozen my account due to a lien. I am currently recieving unemployment insurance via direct deposit. This is my only income. Is this legal? My son and I have nothing to live off, currently.

Re: Bank Lien on Unemployment Benefits

Presumably a "lien" (actually you mean a garnishment or levy) on your account means that you ignored and did not pay a lawsuit you lost, or a student loan or taxes you let go into seriuous default. If so, it's not only legal, but what you should expect as normal. You will want to discontinue direct deposit as new money going into that account will be lost as well. Generally the only way to release a lien on the account would be a bankruptcy, and you need a lawyer very quickly to avoid losing both what is in the account and new money that goes into that account. You should see a lawyer today.
