You can either forget about it or sue her in Magistrate's (Small Claims) Court. Bear in mind you can't get more than the value of a used IPOD.
Keep asking her for the money. What you should NOT do is try to make a legal issue out of an iPod. When you loan someone your property, you risk they lose it or break it.
Guess your best friend is soon to be an ex-best friend!
How are you going to prove that you loaned her the I-Pod and that it was stolen while in her care other than your say so? She could just as easily deny your claims. Do you have anything in writing at all? How about her payment of $100?
What I would do is send her a letter and once again ask for the funds. However, you are going to have to find out what an I-Pod was worth. Try going on eBay or going to the place whre you bought it. Its not worth whatever you paid as it was used. Since you already recovered $100, how much more will be owed?
I assume ethat you had no insurance on this. If it is worthwhile financially, you can sue her in small claims in the county where she resides. You are initially going to have to pay the fees for filing and service of process. However, you just might chalk this up as a learning experience and never let a friend borrow an expensive toy like this, especially if they are not responsible.
