bill collector.

What is the statue of limitations on collecting for a bill? I received a letter from a collector for abill that is 18 years old. They want me provide proof that I paid this bill.

Re: bill collector.

There is no limit on the time they can attempt to collect. They can even file a valid lawsuit, and if not defended properly, they can get a judgment. If the bill is valid, perhaps they will agree (in writing) to not report it on your credit report as recent activity in exchange for a payment.
