Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Civil Monetary Lawsuit

If I were to lose an $1800 civil matter through the Magistrate Court, but the judge does not state when or how to pay, what options does the plaintiff have to collect the money? Can a lien be put on my house, a garnishment (my business is brand new) against wages, or can she take money from my bank account?

A creditor can do all the things listed by you at any time once they have a judgment.

Yes a lien can be put on your house in the form of a Writ of Fi.Fa. If that happens, you cannot refinance your home or sell it without paying off that judgment (which will continue to accrue post-judgment interest). A garnishment can issue against your employer, requiring them to take a portion of your pay and pay it to the judgment creditor. A garnishment can also issue against your bank account. The bank will hold all monies in the account for 30 days as well as any monies that are deposited into that account during that period. There is no limit to the amount that can come out of your bank account, unless very specific things apply, such as having only disability as incoming funds into the account.
