Collection Agency Harrassment

Are collection agencies allowed to call your place of employement after you inform them you are not allowed personal phone calls? Are they allowed to use profanity?Can they refuse to accept a payment plan (this is a credit card debt) and insist that payment in full is the only thing they will accept?

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act governs the conduct of debt collecters. Generally, the activities you describe are not allowed. If you notify the collection agency in writing that you do not want to be contacted, it must cease to contact you about your debt. You should send notice by certified mail and keep a copy of your records. If a collection agency trys to contact you after this notice, you may have a claim for damages.
