Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Collection
My ex-husband and I are equal owners on the equity on the house that I live in. I still owe three years of house payments. I was blind sided by an extreme circumstance several months ago and could not pay my credit cards that I have been paying for twenty years. I called to explain and they refused to work with me. How can I settle this without a lean on my property? Help!!

Re: Collection
A bankruptcy may help. Call me.
Re: Collection
Be careful about declaring Bankruptcy. It sounds like you have equity in your home. Also, the degree of financial difficulty is important. Perhaps the credit card companies will work with you. Call them
Re: Collection
Bankruptcy should usually be a last resort, not a first step. You do not say who you called - the home lender or credit card companies. You also do not say if your bad circumstances have changed for the better, or what your overall picture is. Consumer Credit Counseling (the real one, not "credit repair" scams) can often help if the issue is just credit cards. Again, too many unknown details.
