Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Collection On a repossed car
I had a car that was wrecked and total out. But the insurance had lapsed when it was wrecked. So they wanted me to pay for it but I didn't. So they picked up the wrecked vehichle? So they hassled me about the vehicle for a couple of months. But since then they haven't tried to get in touch with me for about seven years. But it did kept popping up on my credit report. So I was Trying to get a loan in Oct. 2004 and it pop up on my credit? So the loan officer wanted me to get in touch with collection agency that was handling the account. Now they want to harass me again after all those years? Am I obligated to start paying them something after all those years? Because feel that would have started back harassing me if i didn't call them

Re: Collection On a repossed car
Debts can be reported on a credit history for 7 years and then age off. But depending on the state law that governed the contract, and that may not have been your state, the debt COULD be collectable longer. To be sure you will need to find your car contract, and see what state law it says governs, and have a lawyer check on the limitation period.
