My wife had a credit card that was past due for various reasons. We recieved sherrifs notice about the company suing us for the funds. How should we respond? We are not disputing that we owe the funds.

You need to sit down with a lawyer to discuss your options. Whatever you do must be done quickly.

Re: Credit card collections
If you owe the money, and have no defense, paying a lawyer may be using money that could otherwise be used to pay the debt. Perhaps they will stay the case pending a payment plan. Otherwise, you provide no information from which provide an opinion as to how you would respond (and providing specific guidance on a lawsuit is beyond the scope of the board).
