Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
Credit Card Company Will Not Give Me Credit For Payoff Of My Account
I recently did a balance transfer, paying off one credit card, with a 22.3% interest rate with one that has a 9.9% rate, to try to reduce debt. The card that was payed off will not give me credit for the payment. They keep insisting that I have 30 days to supply them with a copy of the check, front and back, to proove payment. I have done this, 4 times, the last 2 via registered return receipt USPS mail, they still insist that they don't have it, and they will consider the matter closed, because I have not cooperated with them! What can I do? Now, I owe not $3,500 dollars, but $7,000! I was trying to HELP myself, but now I have payments to both of them because I can't get the credit on the one account. Any help would be appreciated!

Unfortunately, at this stage you will need to hire a lawyer to force the issue. If your check shows that the expensive card received the payment, you may have to sue them to clear your account, credit reports, etc.

I assume you kept good copies of everything. Write them a letter reciting all that has occurred to date, and tell them if they report you to a credit agency, you'll be suing them for slander.
