Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

Credit card responsibility

A few years ago, I let my ex-boyfriend have his own american express card linked to my account. He never used my card, he had his own card with his name on it, and the purchases were broken down under his name and my name. The card is technically in my name, though. So, he ran up about $16K on it, and has been making the minimum payments on it every month. This month, he didn't, and will not return my emails or phone calls. Can I take him to court to get him to pay his part of it? I'm hoping that I can, since I can provide documents that say, ''Purchases by John Smith'', instead of just saying that he bought things on my card.

Re: Credit card responsibility

Yes, you can pursue him for his portion, but that does not relieve you of responsibility to pay the account pursuant to your agreement (which, in virtually all cases, will be the entire amount charged by either of you). Your credit will be harmed if payments are not made pursduant to your agreement.

You can try, although you will have to prove your case.
