creditors

a creditor has mailed a letter to my employer telling them to garnish my wages for a debt that ic almost 15 years old. can they legally garnish my wages without taking me to court?

If they have a valid judgment, probably, but no one here knows those facts. Garnishments are not handled by "letters" from the creditor.

Garnishments are court documents, not letters, and they occur after you lost a court case. Gather up your paperwork and see a lawyer. Generally the only thing that will stop a garnishment besides payment is a bankruptcy.
