Debt collector summons

I have just received a summons from a debt collector and have 30 days to file an answer to the complaint. What does this mean?

Re: Debt collector summons

This means you should see a lawyer right away (when you have debt problems you should ideally do that before lawsuits, so you're rather late in the process). If you do not answer, you'll be in default and lose automatically. Even if you do answer and lose, a creditor can then garnishee your wages and bank accounts and seize your assets. You will want to discuss with a lawyer whether you have defenses, whether you can negotiate a settlement, or whether you should look at bankruptcy. You should act immediately.
