Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia

debt collectors calling neighbors

A woman called my neighbors home in an effort to contact a tenant in my home. My tenant is out of town so, I called the # to ask them not to call my neighbor again. The women told me she would do whatever she had to do to get in contact with my tenant...even call other neighbors! Is that legal? What can I do to make sure that my neighbors are not bothered again or in the future?

Re: debt collectors calling neighbors

This is the tenant's issue - not yours. He/she needs to handle it, whether it is through the obvious first option, paying the debt, or reading up on the FDCPA and acting on that. If the tenant tells the collector to cease contact, that often means instead of calls the Sheriff's Office shows up in person to deliver a summons and complaint for the debt.
