old debt

Medical bill from 5 years ago has just surfaced. Collector stated they have been sending bills but we have not seen them. They were sent to old address. How long do they have to collect an old debt. Can they send this debt of over 5 years to the credit bureau

Yes, it can be reported on your credit report. Since it appears that it is a valid debt, pay it - preferably with an agreement, in writing, they will not report it.
