Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Georgia
debt settlement
My mother hired an attorney to negotiate credit card debts down on my expired sister's estate. It has now been 4 weeks past the deadline our attorney gave the creditors, and he said that he has heard nothing from them. Is this unusual, and how long does it usually take for creditors to get back in touch with a reply? I would have thought that the creditors would want this situation out of the way as well. Most Internet Debt Settlement sites say that they hear something within a couple of days, and yet we're dealing with over a month of silence. Just doesn't add up.
Thanks.

Those are issues that should be discussed between your mother and the lawyer.
Re: debt settlement
You have an attorney so why would you instead trust the misinformation that permeates the internet? It is ridiculous to expect answers in a few days, and it is rare to have answers in a month. Many large creditors are woefully mis-run, and may never respond, and it is not unusual for others to take many months. Start listening to your lawyer.
