default judgment

I showed up for my court date to find out that I was already in default. I was trying to settle with the collector not aware of the mistake I had already made. At this point I am not sure what I should do next.

It sounds like you already lost. Your next step (usually) would be either to pay the judgment or go bankrupt. At this point you need to sit down with a lawyer so he can get all your financial details.
